World of Dances #17

Arianni Martin, dancer for the Arizona Ballet, and previously with the Cuban National Ballet. Kike Calvo for World of Dances

This post is the latest in the World of Dances series, which profiles ballet and dance photography in iconic, architectonically unique, culturally emblematic, rapidly vanishing landmarks or simply unexpected locations, that Kike captures about during his travels. Kike will be the National Geographic photography expert on the new expedition Cuba and Its People: A Photographic Exploration.

I photographed Cuban dancer Arianni Martin in the Malecon, with El Morro Castle on the background on December 2011. She was still dancing for Alicia Alonso’s Cuban National Ballet in Havana. Now, you can find her at the Ballet Arizona in Phoenix.

Dancer: Arianni Martin.
Ballet: Ballet Arizona
Location: Havana, Cuba.
